Wellness Tips

Beauty starts with what we put into our bodies and how we treat ourselves every day. Little changes in our lifestyles (i.e. drinking more water, getting a little extra sleep, snacking on whole foods) can really increase the health and natural beauty of our bodies from our skin to our gut health. Here are a few guidelines for putting your best face forward:

Get enough rest

Sleep is the single most important rejuvenation treatment you can give yourself. Going to bed early enough, and consistently––even over the weekend––is a sure way to keep your skin looking young and your eyes bright. This may seem impossible sometimes and in our day and age, it’s getting worse because of our addiction to devices.

Studies have found that lack of sleep is linked to increased signs of aging, reduces skin health, and decreases your skin’s ability to recover from sun exposure. Give your skin all the rest it needs and aim for at least 7-8 hours of shut-eye each night.

Experts recommend creating a ritual that winds your brain down for the day and prepares your mind and body for sleep. An example would be every evening drawing a hot bath, diffusing the air with calming essential oils such as lavender and chamomile, and listening to a meditation audio file while laying in bed. Another great tool is a white noise machine, which recreates the calming sound of moving air.

Of course our facility is all about relaxation and many people fall asleep here unintentionally, they’re just so relaxed! Get a ‘Me Time Ritual‘ if you want to work on DIY relaxation; this gives you time in our facility to hang out, alternate cold showers, steam, sauna, and organic product for your own facial. Also provided are over-the-earphones and audio player with meditation files and an eye mask, which allow you to shut out the world.

Eat (and drink) your vitamins

Including whole foods in your diet, especially foods that contain probiotics, will keep your body healthier in the long run. Anjou Spa offers Humm Kombucha on tap to refresh your palette and offer a dose of beneficial bacteria.

Probiotics help to maintain a healthy gut which is key to keeping your immune system agile and ready to defend against daily exposure to environmental toxins. This includes those toxins that are absorbed through the largest organ our bodies have – our skin!

Maintaining a healthy gut can also help to tame skin that is prone to acne, rosacea, and eczema. Other beneficial skin foods include walnuts, olive oil, dark leafy greens like spinach and kale, and wild fish, like salmon. All of these foods are rich in omegas and antioxidants that will nourish your skin and keep it glowing. (Also consider Eminence Organics Clear Skin Probiotic Line while you’re at it––another way to “eat” probiotics.)

Be kind to yourself

When one is kind to yourself, you develop a beauty that goes beyond skin deep. Having an attitude of kindness towards our own bodies (and minds) also helps us keep things in perspective when we are facing a hectic or difficult period of life. We remember to treat our bodies as our homes for a lifetime, to be easy on ourselves and treat our bodies with care.

Also taking the time to develop a self-care routine that works for your lifestyle is a way we can show our bodies kindness. Like we said, the skin is the largest organ and it deserves to be treated well! A soothing massage or a treatment for tired hands or feet does wonders to lift the spirits and calm the mind. This is the number 1 reason people become Spa Members at Anjou; they want to make sure once a month, there is time carved out for them.
